Religion in 50 Words

A Guided Reading

with Dr. Andrew Henry

Read 3 pages a week with Dr. Andrew Henry.

Learn to think like a scholar about religion.

This Guided Reading course is an asynchronous guided reading course for anyone who wants to understand key topics in the academic study of religion. You work through the material on your own schedule, reading short entries in any order rather than following a fixed syllabus.

Your teacher? Dr. Andrew Henry, creator of Religion for Breakfast and a scholar of religion. Your textbook? Religion in 50 Words by Aaron Hughes and Russell McCutcheon. Each chapter runs just two to three pages and synthesizes concepts like belief, ritual, and the sacred.

As part of our Guided Readings series, this course offers a hands-on way to work through challenging theoretical texts with guidance from a scholar. Students gain access to Dr. Andrew Henry through optional weekly live sessions offered at rotating times, where Dr. Henry models how scholars read difficult material and responds directly to student questions. You can participate live or engage entirely asynchronously, without losing access to expert instruction.
